Installing VMware Horizon View – Part 5: Installing View Transfer Server & Local Mode VMs
In this post we will cover Transfer server and Local Mode VMs.
First, the requirements are as follows:
General Requirements:
Must be managed by the same vCenter Server instance as the local desktops that it will manage.
Does not have to be part of a domain
Must use a static IP
Cannot coexist on the same virtual machine with any other View Manager software component including Connection Server.
OS
Windows Server 2008 R2 – 64-bit – Standard or Enterprise – Min 4GB RAM – 2vCPU
Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 – 64-bit – Standard or Enterprise – Min 4GB RAM – 2vCPU
Installation:
There is not much with the installer. Run connection server installer and select Transfer Server.
Transfer Server Configuration
Firewall:
Add Transfer server to View Manager:
Select the Transfer Server and click Finish to add.
Configure Transfer Server Repository after placing it into Maintenance mode:
I have another disk T: which I used under “Local filesystem” section to add. After that we need to push data to it by clicking Publish button. To do is, we will need to have it exit from Maintenance Mode, wait for couple minutes for it to get ready. Then click on Publish Button:
Note: Floating pool does not support Local Mode. Hence dedicated pool needs to be created beforehand.
Change Local Mode Policies: Allow Local Mode.
Not: Do not forget to install View Client with local mode on the client.
