How to create and deploy SQL Server with SCVMM 2012 SQL Profile – Part 3–Service Template and Deployment

imagePart3: Before creating a service template and deploy it, we need to save the vhdx created earlier to the library. You can manually copy the vhdx to the library (SQL Server Image) and then create a VM Template. After copying, refresh the library to make sure the new disk is listed.

I will leave other settings up to your environment. Make sure to select HA.

In Configure SQL Server Section, add the SQL Profile we created earlier, called SQLDeployment, then create the template.

To Create Service Template, select create, and then single Machine.

At this point the designer opens, you need to drag the disk and drop it on the template on the right. Then click save and validate.

Validate and click configure deployment. Name your deployment.

In the deploy service screen, at the bottom, you will see properties of each component. Change it as required, name, host to deploy etc.

Finally, deploy!!!

After the deployment completes, you can see it is listed in the services section:

If you get an error during deployment, check “C:Microsoft SQL Server100Setup BootstrapLogsummary.txt” for errors.

  1. Hi , thanks for this blog.

    1. After you create the sql profile , do you need to sysprep the machine again before copying the vhdx to the library

    2. do you have any info on creating a sql cluster template / service using VMM. thanks

  2. Hi Mohamed,
In order to prep an image with SQL, you need to follow the steps listed in part 1:
Here the last step is to sysprep after installing/prepping SQL for sysprep. Unfortunately, I have not done any cluster. Good luck!

Hello , in the last step of the preperation i take an error , Error (24315)
Failed to write to file “C:WindowsTEMPSQLSysprep.ini”. Operation failed with error: “Some or all identity references could not be translated.”

    Recommended Action
Fix the error then try operation again

    Any ideas about this ?
